American Charles Tschaikovsky this season was the oldest volunteer in the Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids. He is 84 years old and has tirelessly assisted volunteers in works on the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun, in the Underground Labyrinth Ravne, and in newly discovered tunnels at the park Ravne 2. His role was to be the first filter for pebble material and artifacts.
Charles was in the post-war Sarajevo, immediately after the war, and testified of war destruction. Twenty years later, with pleasure, he returned to the Balkans, although his relatives asked him not to go because of the ‘situation in those countries’ and ‘his years’.
Brave Charles proved by his example that despite the suggestions of the US State Department not to travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina because of ‘the existence of armed gangs’, the truth on the ground is different and that Bosnia is a safe country. As far as his age, with the help of other volunteers, Charles has done its part of the job in the best possible way and gave an example to others.
The ‘Archaeological Park’: The Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun ‘Foundation is proud of all 3,350 volunteers who have volunteered in the project over the past ten years. With them, this project has become the most open in the archeology world.
