After full four months, 70 working days and the participation of almost 300 volunteers from all continents and over 30 countries of the world, in Visoko, the curtain is down for the another successfully realized project of the “Archaeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun” Foundation, the “Expedition to the Bosnian Pyramids with volunteering”. The end of this year’s volunteering season is an excellent opportunity to summarize the season together with the Foundation Coordinator Ajdin Ahmetspahić.
– Right now, another volunteering season is over for which we can openly say that is was very successful. During the last four months, we had almost 300 volunteers from more than 30 countries of the world and from all continents. From Brazil, Argentina, to Mexico, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and to Island, almost all European countries, Israel, Vietnam, Iran, Egypt… Therefore, all continents were represented, but we are especially happy to see an increasing number of the volunteers from the neighbouring countries, Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia. During this season as well the largest number of volunteers is from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Bulgaria. – Ahmetspahić pointed out.
The works have been done at the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun, Tunnels Ravne and the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon.
– The shifts lasted for 11 days in total and a lot of work has been done. We’ve worked for 20 days in Tunnels Ravne, clearing new tunnels and corridors towards the Pyramid of the Sun, hoping to reach the very entrance soon. We’ve discovered the new chambers, new accesses to the tunnels and it was a magnificent experience, to be a part of the team, employed in all operations and discoveries, and to see the project developing at the spot. 50 days we’ve spent at the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun expanding the probe no. 5 towards the top and we’ve expanded and moved for 4 meters, cleared the bush and a very difficult task was clearing the humus and clay layer, which was in some places at 2,5 meters of depth. A special success of this year’s volunteering action is the opening of the new probe no.6 with the dimensions 10×7 meters. The special thing about it is that this probe is visible from Visoko too, so all residents and visitors of Visoko can witness from the heart of the city the works on the north side of the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun. At the probe no. 6 we’ve managed to reach the concrete blocks proving again that the concrete sequence continues and that the blocks are expanding.
Besides the volunteering part, the Expedition participants had an opportunity to visit other locations in our country and get familiar with the historic and natural landmarks.
– Apart from working we’ve visited and seen many landmarks, the stone sphere park and the biggest sphere in Dubrava, then the obelisk in Bakići near Olovo, the Vranduk Fort, which is very important because it’s one of the unconquered fortresses of the medieval Bosnia. The participants also had the opportunity to see the “stećak” (tombstones), the story and the history of the medieval Bosnia, with the Bogomil’s, and besides all this we’ve visited the natural phenomenon the Boračko lake, then Konjic, Sarajevo, to realize that the history of this small country is magnificent, but not a lot is said and known about it. – Ajdin explains.
The curtain is drawn over another successful volunteering season. However, the preparations for the next one have already begun.
– With this season’s end, we’ve started with the preparations of the following one. The hard-working colleagues are already employed in the preparations, aiming the improvement of the program, of the volunteering part and prepare so everything is planned and ready, because right now we are having the announcements by the volunteers that came this year that they will be coming here in the next year and the applications of the new volunteers for the following season, which is starting on June 1, 2018. – The Foundation Coordinator Ajdin Ahmetspahić summarized.
