In August 2025, the Foundation Archaeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun launched a new phase of intensive archaeological work on the prehistoric underground tunnel system known as Ravne 6, located within the Zvonik hill in the Archaeological, Tourist and Sports Park Ravne 2 in Visoko.
The project is directed by field archaeologist Ajla Čobanija, M.A., with the participation of Foundation staff and volunteers from several countries.
Under her supervision, the Foundation’s professional team has been securing the tunnel structure by installing trapezoidal wooden supports, using certified mining-grade timber. All reinforcement follows the standards defined in the Supplementary Mining Project, which prescribes this form of structural protection.
Preparatory and Technical Work
Preliminary works—such as clearing the entrance zone, stabilizing the first several dozen meters of the tunnel, and installing lighting and drainage systems—were completed between late 2023 and mid-2024.
Following these initial preparations, the Foundation conducted measurements of energy phenomena, which once again confirmed the beneficial effects of being within the Ravne tunnel complex.
Systematic Archaeological Excavations
Comprehensive excavations commenced in August 2025, focusing on sieving excavated material and the search for artifacts and organic remains. All field operations are carried out in strict compliance with safety procedures: volunteers are allowed to enter only the reinforced sections of the tunnel network.
Currently, the team is documenting a series of dry-stone walls, representing a type of ancient construction identical to those previously recorded in the tunnels Ravne, Ravne 3, and Ravne 4. These walls appear to be part of the same prehistoric engineering tradition.
New Discoveries in Ravne 6
The Ravne 6 tunnels were first identified in October 2023, when an open section approximately 60 meters long, oriented west–east, was discovered.
During the October 2025 phase of work, while clearing side passages leading southward toward the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun, archaeologists uncovered newly opened sections. For the first time, two completely parallel open tunnels were revealed—one measuring 32 meters, the other 27.5 meters in length.
Both passages contain nine additional side corridors, each sealed with dry-stone walls and filled with loose, gravel-like material, bringing the total number of side passages documented so far to ten.
Ongoing Work
Archaeological, conservation, and structural-safety activities at the Ravne 6 site will continue throughout the autumn and winter months.
The Foundation’s multidisciplinary team aims to ensure that this newly discovered section of the prehistoric network is properly secured, researched, and documented—adding another significant chapter to the ongoing exploration of the Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids.
