On Friday, 29 August 2025, archaeological research officially began in the ‘Ravne 6’ tunnel, located on Bell Tower Hill within the Archaeological–Tourist–Sports Park Ravne 2 in Visoko.
The tunnels were discovered by the Foundation’s then field archaeologist M.A. Amna Agić with a team of volunteers in October 2023. After the initial survey it was concluded that there is an open section of the tunnel running west–east, with several closed (gravel-filled) side passages. These passages were most often sealed with dry-stone walls and run north–south. By way of reminder, the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun lies south of this tunnel.
A notable feature is an open section of 65 metres where, during the first survey, very favourable energetic values were recorded: a consistently pleasant temperature and humidity, a high concentration of beneficial negative ions, an absence of harmful electromagnetic radiation, etc.
These tunnels have become part of the joint project to investigate other tunnels in the underground complex (Ravne 3, Ravne 4, Ravne 5 and Ravne 6).
During the 2024 season, safe access to the tunnels was constructed; the entrance was capped with a concrete roof; shoring was carried out in the entry section; water drainage was installed; and electricity with LED lighting was brought into the tunnels.
After signing a cooperation agreement with the local museum and obtaining permits from the competent cantonal ministry, the first research day took place on Friday, 29 August. Field archaeologist M.A. Ajla Šabanija, together with the head of shoring works, experienced miner Šerif Lulić, and several Foundation employees and volunteers, began the careful removal of deposited loose material and checks for the presence of artifacts. Should any artifacts be found, under the relevant cantonal law they will be deposited in the Homeland Museum in Visoko.
