On Friday, 29 August 2025, at the archaeological–tourist–sports park “Ravne 2” in the Bosnian Pyramids District, another unique installation was ceremonially opened. It is the “Sundial,” an astronomical device that tracks the movement of the Sun—at the same time a symbol of humanity’s bond with natural rhythms and the Sun’s eternal cycle.
What makes this art installation unique is its intention to depict the struggle between light and darkness—a yin–yang concept. When the gnomon’s shadow falls across the dial, the painted dragons appear to “devour” the shadow (light overcoming darkness). The dial features Roman numerals, seven in total.
The Sundial is the work of a group of artists from several countries led by Emanuele Resco (Italy), who also hosted the unveiling program in the beautiful Park “Ravne 2.” The new installation is located in the section of the park right next to the lecture hall. In addition to Emanuele, the team included Alissa Abolentseva (Kazakhstan), Dominik Dragos Pohludka (Czech Republic), Alessandro Simonini (Italy), Rada Koželj (BiH), Bianca Basile (Italy), Francesco Damiano Desantis (Italy), Natalie Zangari (Italy), and Lucrezia Arrigoni (Italy). During their two-week stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina, they spent the first week volunteering at several locations and the second week devoted to artistic work.
Following the unveiling came a musical performance by Lux Aeterne (Italy). In his opening remarks, Emanuele noted that the Sundial found its place in the park thanks to Dr. Sam Osmanagić, who both contributed to the project’s realization and provided the site within the park. He expressed thanks to Dr. Osmanagić, the entire Foundation team, and all the volunteers who helped create the installation.
Park “Ravne 2” continues to thrive in its international spirit, attracting the energy of people from all over the world.
