The Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun Foundation is a non-profit organization that has fascilitated an international volunteers program, which is now in its tenth year. The Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids is the largest, most active and controversial archaeological site in the world. It is the only project of its kind that allows both professionals and non-professionals to contribute to the archaeological research.
The project has attracted archaeologists, anthropologists, geologists, physicists, engineers, medical doctors, spiritualists, philosophers, film makers, journalists, chefs, lawyers, teachers, gardeners, technologists, computer programmers, historians, musicians, mathematicians and etc. of all ages, from around the world.
Excavations will be conducted under the supervision of trained professionals with the help of an international team of volunteers. Volunteers are required to be physically fit, open-minded, adventurous and enthusiastic for the work. Training will be provided.
The work is physical and includes but is not exclusive to; digging and excavating, ground clearence, sifting for artefacts, landscaping, cleaning past excavation trenches, creation and repair of paths and steps.
We are also keen to invite volunteers who are skilled in photography, filmmaking, video editing and blogging who can assist with documentation and promotion of the summer excavations.
Work is conducted MONDAY to FRIDAY between the hours of 0900 until 1500
Excavations run from June 03 until end October.
A two week shift pattern has been formalized although volunteers can decided how long or short their stay is.
Lunch is provided, as is work insurance.
Volunteers are required to arrange their own accomodation. The town of Visoko has different types of accom that can fit every budget.
We are located in Visoko, 30km from the Bosnian capital Sarajevo. To get to Visoko it is possible to take a bus from the main Sarajevo coach station or a taxi direct from the airport if you are flying. Some European coach services may drop off direct in Visoko. First time visitors should then make their way to the Ravne Tunnels archaeological site to register.
