Expeditions with Ajdin
By: Ajdin Ahmetspahić, Foundation’s Guide Coordinator
Twenty volunteers from all around the world, from Australia to Spain, are working hard these days to reveal concrete blocks on the northern side of the Bosnian pyramid of the Sun. Removing material that has been there for almost 12000 years is not easy job. Beside rocks and pebbels in the soil there are plenty of roots and woods that has been growing there for centuries.
Foundation provided tools, axes, spades and picks, things that are expendable and always needs to be renewed. Best way to support volunteeringship, beside the direct involvment in work is the donation of this kind of equipment.
After the work volunteers are offered the lunch every day with domestic organic food from local producers. Yesterday, nice piknik was organised on the top of the Bosnian pyramid of the Moon in the beutiful enviroment and amazing archaeological sondas with cut sandstone plates.
My assistants this year is Tarik, the local volunteer who is with us for 5 years now and Tomas, the archaeologist and spiritualitist from Poland with huge experience.
While working with them I remembered the days back in 2010. when the first volunteering program MRAV was organised. These days, people, work and energy on the spots is what kept me all those years involved in this important job I’m doing here. We used to have so much fun meeting, new people, exchanging experiences, information and theories while at the same time we were so grateful for having opportunity working at these ancient sites.
„Years from now“, we were saying, „we are going to say to our children and grandchildren, that we were here when it was all starting“.
Smiles, hard work and gratefulness didnt dissapear and I can see it on our new and old volunteers equaly, every time, and this makes me happy to be here.
Volunteers will always be important part of this project, it is life changing opportunity and best thanks to Sam and Foundation for organising such an amazing thing here in the heart of Bosnia.
First picture under the text is my suggestion for what should be official logo of the volunteers in the Bosnian Valley of Pyramids.
