A Pre‑Ice Age City?
It was precisely 3:26 p.m. on Sunday, 22 December 2024, when I found myself standing before a colossal triangular stone block that would change the course of my life.
The strange thing is, neither the stone nor I should have been there.
That day, I was supposed to be forty miles away, selling smoothies at a wrestling tournament. Instead, after spending nine frustrating hours stranded by the roadside with a flat tyre, we returned to camp far earlier than expected. Looking back now, it feels as though some invisible thread of fate drew me to that exact place, at that exact moment, while the daylight still remained.
Had the tyre never failed, I would never have seen what stood before me.
As I approached the immense triangular block, my astonishment quickly turned to disbelief. Resting perfectly upon it were two enormous rectangular megaliths, stacked one above the other. Their angle mirrored the incline of the triangular stone beneath them. Alongside these sat a smaller header stone continuing the same alignment with remarkable precision.
My immediate reaction was simple: this was not nature.
This was not random erosion, coincidence, or geological trickery. The stones appeared cut, shaped, and positioned with purpose. On the left side, the triangular block and the rectangular megaliths connected seamlessly to additional massive stone forms, many of which disappeared into the mountain beneath layers of earth and sediment.
As I continued exploring, searching for more stones of this kind, I encountered something even more extraordinary.
Hidden behind trees and tangled vegetation at the rear of the campsite stood what appeared to be a vast stepped structure composed of enormous granite blocks.
I was able to climb onto the lowest level and carefully walk along its surface. My heart raced with every step as I pushed aside branches that obscured my path.
At the far end, a raised stone platform formed what looked like a stairway leading to a second level.
There, resting side by side, were two immense granite megaliths. One was square, with rounded edges and a distinctive curved ledge projecting slightly from its side.
The other was a rectangular stone more than twenty feet in length, bearing a shape that reminded me of the head of a serpent.
Many of these blocks measured over twenty feet long, five feet high, and four feet wide, all carved from solid granite. I could not escape the feeling that these stones had been intentionally shaped.
But by whom?
And when?
When I returned to Los Angeles, Christmas had arrived, but my thoughts were elsewhere.
I found it impossible to focus on anything except what I had discovered at Three Rivers. The questions consumed me. Within days, I made a life‑changing decision. I left my job and returned to Three Rivers on 27 December. Over the following eighteen months, I dedicated myself to documenting the site through photographs, videos, observations, and exploration.
This is what I found.
Climbing the Mountainside
When I first returned to the campsite, I still had no understanding of the scale of what lay before me. To gain perspective, I began climbing the mountainside above the structure.
Along the way, I encountered what appeared to be a man‑made water channel.
At the time, I did not appreciate its significance, though I would later come to regard it as an important clue.
As I climbed higher, I noticed large stone forms emerging from the hillside. Many appeared cut, shaped, or worked in unusual ways.
Others seemed almost moulded rather than carved.
One partially buried piece protruding from the soil caught my attention. After carefully excavating it, I uncovered a stone form resembling a human foot.
Scattered across the slopes were countless enormous boulders. Many possessed sharply angled sides. Some rested in seemingly impossible balance atop one another, while others appeared fitted together with remarkable precision.
Then I reached the summit.
Looking across the valley toward the surrounding mountains, I experienced the moment that transformed my entire understanding of the landscape.
The structure below was not an isolated feature.
The mountain to my right appeared strikingly pyramid‑like. Its profile rose in a clean triangular form before extending along a ridge and descending down the opposite slope.
As I stood gazing across the valley, a thought emerged that I could not ignore: what if all of this was connected?
What if the stepped structure was only one part of something much larger?
What if I was looking at the remains of an ancient city hidden within the mountains?
Exploration Beyond the Campsite
For weeks, I spent my days exploring the valleys, rivers, and mountain slopes surrounding Three Rivers. Each evening, I immersed myself in local history, searching for clues about those who had lived here before.
Historical records show that settlers arrived in the region during the nineteenth century. During the mining era, concrete water flumes were constructed throughout the area.
One such flume runs directly above the stepped structure.
Today, sections of it have collapsed and leak continuously. Water runs down portions of the stone formations below.
This led me to a possibility.
Could centuries of water erosion have gradually removed the sediment that once concealed these structures?
If so, these features may have remained buried and hidden for thousands of years, invisible even during the construction of roads, homes, and the town itself.
Only when standing before the stepped formation does the impression become difficult to ignore.
It does not resemble a random collection of stones.
It resembles architecture.
It resembles engineering.
Who Built It?
As I searched for answers, I began exploring the traditions and oral histories of Native American peoples who inhabited these lands long before modern settlement.
Many tribal traditions contain stories of extraordinarily large beings, often described as giants possessing great strength and stature.
Intrigued, I broadened my research and discovered numerous nineteenth‑century newspaper accounts reporting unusually large human skeletal remains found throughout North America. Reports described skeletal finds ranging from seven to twelve feet in length.
Whether these accounts represent misunderstood discoveries, folklore, exaggeration, or genuine mysteries remains a subject of debate. Nevertheless, they became part of the larger puzzle I was attempting to understand.
Yet even if such builders existed, another question remained.
How were these stones shaped?
The granite blocks show forms and angles that, to my eye, seem deliberate. In many places, I struggled to identify clear tool marks or signs of conventional quarrying methods.
Perhaps the answer has been lost to time.
Or perhaps the answer lies waiting within the landscape itself.
The mountainside supporting the stepped structure spans thousands of feet and rises toward a prominent peak. Across its slopes lie countless granite blocks and boulders. Some stand alone. Others form clusters, walls, and terraces.
Everywhere I looked, I found features that raised new questions.
My investigation eventually extended beyond Three Rivers.
At Kirch Flat Campground, roughly thirty miles to the northeast, I encountered similar stone formations and terraces.
Nearby stood clusters of shattered granite forms, some of which again appeared strangely shaped or moulded.
I began noticing similar patterns not only in large boulders but also in smaller stones. Many displayed repeating angles and shapes unlike those I was accustomed to seeing in naturally fractured rock.
Searching for the Foundation Level
Throughout my explorations, I searched constantly for what I came to think of as the “foundation level” of this possible ancient city.
Fragments seemed to appear everywhere.
Some emerged from mountainsides.
Others appeared near rivers.
Some could even be seen within private gardens.
One discovery particularly surprised me.
A granite staircase leading toward a house had gone unnoticed by me despite passing it hundreds of times.
When I spoke with the homeowner, he explained that he had uncovered it years earlier beneath overgrown vegetation. Research had shown the house itself was one of the area’s early colonial homes, built around the beginning of the twentieth century.
Yet the staircase appeared far older than the house it now served.
There are countless observations and discoveries from my time in Three Rivers that I cannot include here. Among the most intriguing are three separate boulders positioned high on the mountain range. Each contains large, rounded cavities approximately a meter across, accompanied by smaller holes often identified as grinding features.
All three are situated at roughly the same elevation of just over 5000 feet. Whether coincidence or design, I believe they were created for a purpose.
A Pre‑Ice Age Possibility
Why do I believe these structures may predate the Ice Age?
Because there appears to be no historical record of them.
Because significant depths of sediment cover portions of the granite formations.
Because the landscape shows signs of immense geological upheaval.
And because, if these structures are truly artificial, their scale exceeds anything known from the historical record of the region.
These observations have led me to a bold possibility: that the remains visible today could belong to a forgotten chapter of human history, one buried beneath the sediments of immense age.
I understand that these conclusions are controversial.
I understand that extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence.
Yet I also believe that discovery begins with curiosity.
What I found in these mountains challenged everything I thought I knew about the landscape before me. Whether these formations ultimately prove to be natural wonders, ancient constructions, or something in between, they deserve careful study and open‑minded investigation.
The stones remain.
The questions remain.
And somewhere beneath the soil, the mountains may still hold secrets waiting to be revealed.
Perhaps this story is not about proving what once stood here.
Perhaps it is about having the courage to look again at what others have overlooked.
Because sometimes, hidden among the rocks and silence of an ancient landscape, the past is still trying to tell its story.
